A Note on Concentrating on the Quran in Ramadan: Sakinah - TopicsExpress

A Note on Concentrating on the Quran in Ramadan: Sakinah Al-Albaniyah, the daughter of Al-Shaykh Al-Allamah Muhammad Nasir Al-Deen Al-Albani - Allah have mercy on him - asked her father: "I have read that some of the imams (great scholars), when Ramadan came, would retreat for the recitation of the Quran, and only the Quran, although they were people of knowledge who would issue verdicts to the people. [In Ramadan] they would retreat [to recite the Quran], even stop issuing verdicts to the people. Is this correct? Should I [busy myself] exclusively with the Quran, and leave reading hadith and its commentary and leave my recitation lessons? Ans: Her father, Al-Allamah Al-Albani raheemallah replied: "This exclusion, specifying [only the Quran] has no basis in the Sunnah. What is found in the Sunnah and known from [the hadith in] Al-Bukhari and Muslim is to recite the Quran more in the month of Ramadan. As for reserving the month of Ramadan only for the recitation of Quran, to the exclusion of any other worship like seeking knowledge or teaching hadith and its explanation, then this has no basis. Likewise, there are [other deeds] like benevolence and charity etc. To retreat only to recite [the Quran] has no basis. What does have a basis is to recite [the Quran] more [during Ramadan]". And Allah knows best. Abu maryam. Salaam.
