A Politician, I wouldnt make. Roads are made for cars, people - TopicsExpress

A Politician, I wouldnt make. Roads are made for cars, people trying to get places(work, groceries, doctor, vacation, etc). Bicycles have adapted to use these roads, as well. share the road. This doesnt mean bicycle gets to take the lane every time they are feeling insecure. This means, be considerate & conscientious of each other. Why, because cars kill cyclists. Not the other way around. With that said, there are two types of cyclists, in my mind. Those who are confident riding on the road with moving vehicles, & those who arent. Those who arent, should stick to bike paths & safe roads. Those who are, & dont have an overbearing head to feed, often ride safely along the side & in single file fashion, when in traffic situations. So, lets discuss the ups & downs of bike paths & bike lanes. Bike lanes take up space on generally small streets. Bike lanes also collect debris, which has been blown off the road by motor vehicles. Bike lanes can be confusing to everyone, at intersections. On the other hand, they give the unskilled cyclist a lot more room to operate. Bike paths are also a great place for the slower paced, less assured cyclist to take a casual spin. The down side to a bike path is that everyone uses them. There are joggers, strollers, pets, kids etc which can potentially add up to a basket full of risks, for anyone who really needs/wants to get somewhere. Notice & havent brought up costs. &, I wont. To a point, safety on bicycles depends on the cyclist evaluating his/her own skill level, then environment & acting accordingly. Im all for ways to improve cycling, & its safety. Clean streets, well marked & maintained asphalt(as you can tell, Ive bent enough rims & glued up enough tires). Obviously, votes should decide improvements in urban areas. After all, it is a numbers game. Like it or not. Rural routes just need a little maintenance & good attitude, on both side of the stripes Too much BS.
