A Prayer for Humility: Take me and break me, dear GOD, Just what you want me to be--- Give me strength to accept what YOU send & eyes with the vision to see, All the small arrogant ways that I have & the vain little things that I do, Make me aware that Im often concerned MORE with MYSELF than with YOU, Uncover before me my weakness & greed & help me to search deep inside So I may discover how easy it is To be selfishly lost in my pride-- & then in Thy goodness & mercy look down on this weak, erring one & tell me that I am forgiven For all Ive so willfully done, & teach me to humbly start following The path the dear SAVIOUR trod So Ill find at the end of lifes journey A HOME IN THE CITY OF GOD. Helen Steiner Rice Once or twice in every generation there is a forerunner, a harbinger, a special someone who embodies, signifies, expounds, reflects the best of those times in which he or she lived. Such a one was Helen Steiner Rice. For the eight decades of her life, Mrs. Rice experienced the full spectrum of its harvest. She walked in love, in hope, in prayer, and in thanksgiving, and she shared the fruits of her travels through the written words of her poems. Millions of people around the world have been touched by her work & her dedication to the GIVER of all gifts .What better tribute to this woman of GOD than to have her memory perpetuated by meeting the challenges she offered, by following the precepts she prescribed in these few lines taken from one of her most inspiring poems, a favorite of mine, entitled Prayers Cant Be Answered Until They Are Prayerd: . . . PRAY FOR A PURPOSE to MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING, And PRAY FOR THE JOY of UNSELFISH GIVING, For GREAT IS YOUR GLADNESS and RICH YOUR REWARD When you make your LIFES PURPOSE the choice of the LORD. Indeed , Helen Steiner Rice lived these words. ~ Charles L. Allen ~
