A Prayer for the Sweet Sleep of Peace: Heavenly Father, I am - TopicsExpress

A Prayer for the Sweet Sleep of Peace: Heavenly Father, I am often robbed on peaceful and regenerative sleep, as I toss and turn on the bed on worry, affliction and discontentment, endeavoring to figure out what tomorrow will hold; never once thinking that, since I am awake, I should commune with You, the One holds tomorrow, the One who never slumbers nor sleeps, the One who keeps, protects and sustains me, the One who says plainly that I should seek first His kingdom and righteousness and that I should take no thought for tomorrow (Psa 3:5; 121:4; Matt 6:25-34; 1 Pet 5:6-10; Phil 4:19). Father, when I act upon Your prescription for insomnia, my faith is renewed, I find myself comforted by Your loving grace; I enjoy safety in You and the sweet sleep of peace returns to me (Psa 4:8; 2 Cor 1:3-4; Prov 3:24). Like a child, I realize that, as I sleep, my heavenly Father watches over me and protects me from the wiles of the Devil, whom I now am able to resist and who has no choice but to flee from me as I willingly submit to my Father’s sovereignty (Eph 6:10-20; James 4:7). Father, I have finally realized that, since You never slumber nor sleep, it does not make any sense for us both to be awake; so, like Daniel in the lion’s den, I will sleep the sweet sleep of contentment, not worrying about my circumstances, but trusting that You are in control and nothing takes You by surprise; I will awake refreshed, ready to face whatever You allow to come my way, in full realization that, once again, You have sustained me and, in Your faithfulness, You will not suffer me to be tempted above that which I am able, making a way of escape that I may be able to bear whatever comes (Psa 3:5; 121:4; 147:5; 1 Cor 10:13). Within Your blessed gift of sleep, Father, all I ask is that You cause me from time to time to dream of that blessed day when I will no longer desire or need sleep, that blessed day when there will be no more night because of the brilliant light of Christ and all of my days are spend in glorious praise to You (Rev 21:23-27) . . .
