A Psalm of David… The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want… (ESV) The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need… (NLT) The LORD is my shepherd; I lack nothing… (NIV) David, a King of Israel, recognized God as his ‘Shepherd’, provider, protector, defender and source for all that he needed. This passage does not suggest that we will have all the temporal things we often desire, but that God provides all that we need to successfully live the Christian life that He has called us to live, and that we can be content and fulfilled in this life, regardless of the circumstances or level of wealth. In Him, we lack nothing. With Christ, we have all that we need. Those who do not know God as Savior and Shepherd are always searching for something more than they have; a sinners heart is empty and full of discontent, but with the Lord as your Shepherd, you shall not want. This is a wonderful truth that if we are able to internalize will help each one of us experience more peace in our daily lives.
