A Public Health expert, Professor Irene Agyepong, has called for the prudent management of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure sustainability. “We do have a sustainability challenge and we do need to seriously address that challenge if we want this scheme to survive.” Speaking at a public lecture to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the NHIS, Professor Agyepong suggested that there should be effective monitoring, evaluation and research to examine the progress of the scheme. She also proposed a more stakeholder involvement to devise strategies towards making the scheme better saying, ‘we need to think, plan and implement strategies that will sustainably push the dimensions to complete the box.” Professor Agyepong urged the Authority to strive for sustainability despite the existing resource constraint.
