A Rather Odd Parish Meeting Posted on September 15, 2013 Standard Respond Please have a read of the summary of the latest “move” by the Friends given at steyningskatepark.co.uk/ At the time of writing (Sunday morning) 99 residents have signed the petition asking that the meeting be cancelled. This is twice the number that can attend the meeting the Friends have organised as the room has a capacity of around 50. This, in our view, provides very strong evidence that the meeting is not going to provide a legitimate result. Through the petition we aim to simply show that we need a bigger room for this debate, and to give residents better notice. And of course that our Parish Council – our Councillors and Town Clerk – are the ones we expect to manage and support us in our local democratic decision-making. We will be providing the petition to the Friends before the event to try and prevent them wasting people’s time. We will also follow up our letter already sent to Horsham’s Registrar (the council’s Chief Executive) with the petition for consideration. It is HDC who will decide whether the request for a Town Poll is valid or not. Please do sign the petition, whatever your view on skatepark MPF. This is about how we do local democracy.
