A Sables’ Fairy Tale Once upon a time -and not so very long - TopicsExpress

A Sables’ Fairy Tale Once upon a time -and not so very long ago- in Lusaka there was a little ten-year-old boy. This boy was living in one of the large compounds and, without going into details, his life was characterised by abject poverty and other serious issues. He ended up on the streets of Lusaka, not a pleasant or safe place to be, and his circumstances worsened, if that was possible. Somewhere, somehow and from somebody this little lad heard that there was a place in Kabwe where he might be looked after. So, this orphaned little boy took everything he owned, which amounted to precisely the clothes he wore - an ancient tee-shirt and a pair of trousers which was more holes than cloth, and headed for Kabwe. Kabwe is 142km North-East of Lusaka and over the next four days our little lad walked from sunrise to sundown each day, resting during darkness by sleeping where he stopped on the side of the Great North Road. What a journey - no shoes, no food, no shelter, just a vague hope keeping him going. Eventually arriving in Kabwe, one of the marketeers gave him directions. An exhausted, starving boy with hope in his eyes found himself at Sables where Mr. Eoin, Madame Loveness and Mr. Dave welcomed him in. He had found his sanctuary. Fairy tales are supposed to end with “...and they all lived happily after” but we can’t go that far with this story....yet. Mr. Eoin comes home on holidays this week. On August 22nd Eoin, in solidarity with our little hero, is doing a sponsored walk from Kenmare to Killarney, Dingle and Tralee. The distance - 142 km. Eoin would be glad of company on the trek and, obviously, any sponsorship that he gets will go towards ensuring that this tale, and other, do have a happy ending.
