A Second Confession: last week I was talking with someone I know about the new Fools Hollow books Im writing, and she jokingly asked if I was going to put goats in these books like I had in my last couple of Dragons books. I said yes, and a couple of books in, one specific goat would have a co-starring role. She asked what I called him, and I answered Lucifer Bob. Long pause. Im sorry, she finally said. I wont be able to buy those. I explained that the goat, who will be a handful who causes a lot of trouble, was named after an old pickup that had belonged to my brother, but she had made up her mind. I cant support any books that glorify the name of the adversary, she said. And I dont want my grandkids exposed to that, either. But if you decided to change the goats name, wed be happy to buy them. Fair enough, I said. Then I asked her if she owned the Disney film Cinderella. Of course! she exclaimed, beaming. We love that movie! We watch it with our grandkids several times a year! Do you remember the name of the cat in the movie? I asked. She thought about it, then shook her head. Ask one of the grandkids, I said, then let me know if you think I ought to change any other names in my books.
