A State Department of Transportation project to install sidewalks and bike racks is continuing at several CCSD schools. The Safe Routes To Schools grant was awarded to CCSD in 2011, with the State DOT designated to oversee all work. The projects (sidewalks at Ball Ground ES STEM Academy and Holly Springs ES STEM Academy and bike racks at those schools and at Bascomb, Carmel, Knox and Woodstock ES and Woodstock MS) are scheduled to be completed by the DOT within the first month of school, weather permitting. Schools are planning ways to incorporate these new features into their operations… one example is Woodstock Elementary School, which plans to make its new bike rack part of its participation this fall in International Walk to School Day, expanding upon an event that began last year with support from partners including the Woodstock Fire and Police Departments.
