A Sunday picnic in the San Gabriels in the days of our ancestors circa 1920. My grandfather and his family +one (maybe two - the second at the camera). My guess is this is in the Eaton canyon area. My two grandfathers used to get together and tell stories of driving up the Toll Road, sometimes backward because reverse had a higher gear ratio than low gear. My other grandfather would make the Mel Blanc style sounds of the old cars popping and banging as they tried to get them started and keep them running.
