A THIEF #JAKWO The worst tittle one can have according to luos is a thief. There is no any other title that can be compared to #jakwo. Once youre declared a thief, you automatically qualify to be an outcast. In fact a thief doesnt need enemies within the community. To be a friend of a thief is considered as taking thieving as a trade and can attract serious consequences. If you want to loose your social life then you only need to steal, nothing else. In luoland, you become a fugitive immediately you get the tittle of a thief, your movements are keenly watched by everyone including children and the blind. Once youre declared a thief, you loose touch with your private life, in that wherever you go, everyone is keen to know what youre up to, time youll take there, your eye movement, everything about you in keenly monitored including your dress code. If you buy a new clothe, you must explain when, where, and why you bought it and where you got the money to buy it. With a thief within your family, you only pray to see him back home alive whenever he leaves for a stroll. Luos dont veiw stealing as something created by opportunity but they rather see it a curse or genetically inherited. A murderer has a better ranking than than a thief though at times they go concurently. Murderers are left to be dealt with by the ghosts of those they killed and are never a big problem within the community. According to luos, a thief is lynched on the spot once found on the act. A suspected thief is frequently reminded that he is indeed a thief wherever he goes, and this is even worse on drinking sprees. Thieving is condemned even at a funnerals where the the deceased must be cleared of having engaged in any act of stealing during their life. Youll here one saying on his eulogy, Osodo ok ne mul gir ngato gi lwete. ( Osodo never laid his hands on anyones property). The controversy behind it is that they believe that stealing is strictly done by hands, they dont believe that men steal by their dicks when they sleep with other mens wives. As a matter of fact, recognition is one of the hardest achievement one can attain in life, you must either be famous of nortorious to achieve it. If you need recognition within minutes among the luos, you only need to steal and get away with it. On the other hand, if you need to attract a wrong attention and perhaps die within seconds, you only need to steal openly in a gathering where luos are the majority. Luos dont have second thought with thieves, elimination is the only rule. If a family is declared to be thieves, their marriege becomes a problem within the community, theyd rather marry them off to #Onjelo #jogot who are perceived to be thieves by default. In case an act of stealing within the village, the first sustect is always indicted thieves who must be grilled and their houses ransacked thoroughly. Their friends houses is always done the same. If you are declared a thief and still have a chance to live then you must be one of those luckiest men in the world, thieves dont normally go far. Success made out of stealing is considered a failure, no thief can ever be successful in life. Once declared a thief, clearing your name can be a toll order, youll start by returning whatever you stole from all your victims or their beneficiaries if they are dead, two, identify all your accomplices and give a helping hand in lynching them, three, be in the frontline during thieves lynching, four, preaching against stealing wherever you go and giving yourself as a redeemed living example.
