A Testimony: As a young nine year old girl I was walking through the woods in my housing area in Norfolk, Virginia, when I saw a Bible that someone apparently threw away from a little cliff that was close to where it landed. I took that Bible home and that is when I first started reading the Bible! My father was in the Navy and had served in both World War II, and the Korean Conflict. He was still in the Navy at that time. The school I attended was within a long walking distance from our housing area. After I started to read the Bible, I noticed a church that I could see from my school. I was in the 3rd Grade then. I wanted to attend a church so I decided that I was going to attend that church. So I asked my mother for permission to go to that church on Sunday. She agreed. That was in 1952, when society was more trustworthy and safer. My parents allowed me to walk a considerable distance by myself to attend that church. I had to walk to the end of my housing area, and past my school, then through a major traffic intersection where there was major highway, and then to the church. Each Sunday I would walk to that church. After a few months of attending that church by myself, the pastor was preaching that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and I was convicted that I was a sinner. A few weeks before that day at Fox Hall Baptist Church, I asked a boy in my school who I knew to take care of this kid who would always follow me to school and followed me as I walked home from school. My friend beat up that kid. He never followed me after that. Additionally, I was the oldest sibling in my family and knew I was too bossy. Anyway, even as a nine year old kid, I knew I was a sinner and needed that forgiveness too, and I believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He paid the price for my sins. At nine years old, sitting by myself in Fox Hall Baptist Church, I walked forward when the Pastor gave the invitation. I prayed the sinner’s prayer with the Pastor and invited Jesus Christ into my life to be my Savior. That process started because I found a Bible that someone threw away and I read it! Praise God! Today, He is my Savior and the Lord of my life! Carolyn A. Eilertson’s
