A Trick for Iblis During the ancient time, Iblis, the accursed one, was visible and freely mingled with people. There was a man who told Iblis: “What can I do to be like you?” Satan said, “How could you? No one has ever asked me that question? That is incredible!” “Teach me,” the man pleaded. Iblis told him: “If you are really interested, I will prescribe you the formula and you will be like me, a very powerful being.” “Of course, I am interested. That is why I am asking you to teach me,” the man said. Believing how sincere this man was to become his disciple, Iblis instructed him: “There are two secrets that you have to do: first, neglect your prayers, and second, never mind swearing whether honestly or falsely.” “If you do these two, you can get whatever you want and you will be completely free,” Iblis assured him. The man said: “How can that be when I have made a pledge to Allah that I will never ever neglect nor miss my prayers. I also made a pledge not to indulge in swearing. I seek refuge in Allah from you, accursed devil!” When Iblis heard that, he had to run away saying: “You have learnt my secret! You have tricked me!” REFLECTIONS: As believers, let us always remember the formula of the Devil in making us deviate from the path of Truth: neglect prayer and keep swearing whether true or not. Let us always be conscious to perform our daily prayers with faith, sincerity and enthusiasm, always with the intention of pleasing Allah alone. As to taking unnecessary oaths, we have to think always that when we are used to swearing, that means we do not even trust ourselves, that we even doubt what we say. Let us avoid these acts and we drive Satan away. We seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.
