A U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit arrived and safely detonated an ordinance at the Molokai Landfill on Tuesday. Staff Sergeant Corbin Heard said the 500-pound concrete practice bomb, dating to the 1940s, had already been detonated years ago, but performed a controlled detonation to ensure no explosive material remained. It is currently being stored in a safe location on Molokai until it can be transported off-island for disposal.
