A Veterans Day Message from COL Bill Marks, Garrison - TopicsExpress

A Veterans Day Message from COL Bill Marks, Garrison Commander: Tuesday, 11 November 2014 is Veterans Day. This holiday exists to honor the Veterans that exemplified their patriotism by serving in our US Armed Forces. In celebration of those who sacrificed for America’s freedoms, many of us will engage in recreational activities during the weekend. During these leisure times management of safety risk must be a priority. This holiday is an opportunity to travel and engage in activities with family and friends. If traveling out of the area, check weather forecasts locally and at your destination. Abide by all posted speed limits and wear seat belts. Do not drive under the influence and maintain situational awareness. Fatigue and distracted driving can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence. Avoid such risky behavior by getting plenty of rest prior to traveling, not texting while driving and taking frequent breaks. This holiday weekend we should remember to make decisions which will reduce risk associated with activities like hunting, winter driving and home fireplaces. Risk management should be a part of everyone’s plans for the holiday weekend. Ensure every measure is taken toward safety and protection of your family and friends. Please accept my heartfelt thanks to those who have served and are still serving in the greatest military on the planet. Be safe and enjoy your Veterans Day!
