A WEIRD TALK: Yesterday after my 2nd concert, I was invited to this private after-concert-party. I love meeting new people and old friends, I always attend this party every year. This year, particularly yesterday, I had a really surprising talk with this one lovely family I have never seen before. They were amazed by my skill then they were wondering how I can have normal 9-5 job (I dont know where they got this idea that I was in 9-5 job) and still find energy and time to play as great as I did at the concert. (As usual, I get more invigorated after each concert and as always I was friendly and very excited to talk about my field. They were surprised how I was still energetic after long concert) They asked about my length of practice time apart from 9-5 job. Right after that they praised me that I have such a wonderful hobby but pitied me that I may not have life since in their mind Im working like crazy and practicing all night. To them, this is definitely not an ideal life. Then I clarified I make my living as a full time musician. Then they came to a conclusion that I was good because I do this for full time. (Have they ever considered I am a full time musician because I am good at it and it makes me living at the same time? To me, my work doesnt seem like work because I play all the time. Its literally a play time.) While I was completely dumbfounded, they were shocked how I could make money doing a hobby and quickly pitied me for possibly not making any money doing it. Need I say more? They were so caught up in their own imagination and stuck with 9-5 job idea, I felt its just a waste of my time educating them the nature of my work.
