“A Week of Defining Moments” This has been a week of defining moments. They have had a profound impact upon me. The Holy Spirit has ministered both revelation and confirmation. The confirmation was an encouragement that brought long held convictions into focus concerning what the Spirit is saying to His remnant. For many years I’ve experienced a suspicion of and resistence toward anything that smacks of “self-promotion.” I don’t care whether it’s the latest book, the dynamic new ministry, the celebrity leader, the hot new fad or the breakthrough formula. If it’s tainted with self-serving and self-promotion the “I smell a rat” syndrome kicks in and the yellow caution lights start blinking. God has been ministering several defining truths concerning His remnant. 1. Rest assured that God’s has a remnant. They are out there. Even if you think you are alone, the “remnant” exists. Elijah felt he was alone but God reminded him that there were 7,000 out there who had not bowed their knees to bail. You may be in the dark and not know who this mysterious remnant is or where they are scattered but they are out there and they are hearing the same Spirit you are hearing because they also have the ears to hear. Furthermore, they want to hear what God is saying. Also, rest assured that the masses won’t get it no matter who echos what God is saying so have no unrealistic expectations that they will get it, can get or want to get it. In fact, as far as the masses are concerned, even the church going masses, nothing substantial can be expected. For them it will always be business as usual, playing church as usual and going through the religious routines as usual - whether it’s old church or state-of-the-art contemporary. 2. My responsibility is to minister it. I don’t need to “doctor it”, embellish it or accommodate it to anyone’s sensitivities. I don’t need to beef it up, water it down, tone it down or dumb it down. 3. The effectiveness of what He is saying to His remnant is not dependant upon any attempts at self-promotion, ambition or opportunism. What He is saying will get out there and those who were meant to hear it will hear it without any self-promotion on our part. We don’t have to sell ourselves in the process. I guess you could simply say, “If you minister it, they will come.” 4. As soon as self-promotion and the taint of “ego”, self-serving motives, personal ambition, a lust for recognition or selfish agendas gets involved we destroy the effectiveness of the message in reaching the remnant. The remnant will smell a rat as soon as “self-promotion” is involved and will be turned off. Sometimes, even when the message is good and our motives innocent, the self-promotion can rob it of it’s effectiveness. Don’t kid yourself! It was said of Jesus that “His voice was not heard in the streets”. I believe this is referring to the fact that He was never guilty of self-promotion. He often shunned it. In fact, He often went out of His was to avoid it and repeatedly told those He healed to tell no one. He knew His sheep would hear His voice and like the vast herds of goats, He also knew that the masses just wouldn’t get it. He is speaking to His church today. The Spirit of God is speaking to His remnant. God is so done with the spirit of self-promotion, selfish ambition and the glory of men. If God is speaking to you then you will get what I am saying and will say a big “Amen” in your heart. Otherwise, this message isn’t for you.
