Just saw Noah for my birthday... I dont even know where to start. I went in expecting very little, I was not expecting a biblical epic or even a faithful story, just an entertaining film. But I wasnt prepared for just how bad of a movie it was. OK, there was a big boat and a lot of rain and a dove, but apart from that it just goes its on way at telling a story about a psychotic guy who has trouble with his uncle, builds an Ikea store with the help of band of rock creatures, attempts to save the planet from himself and decides not to kill his grandchildren because of...well, love what else? All the while Emma Thompson and Jennifer Connely are crying a lot. But I think this was because it genuinely pained them to have to act out this script. The story was depressing and just plain weird. They must have spent all their budget on trying to convince people that it was an artistic biblical epic and getting Russell Crowe to put his name on the film, because they sure didnt spend any money on a script, directing or editing and very little on the animal animation. My advice is wait until it comes out on DVD so that you can turn on the directors notes and find out exactly what they were smoking while they cut this thing together. I expect dialog like, Hey dude, we were thinking like wow wouldnt it be cool if the rocks exploded, yeah we can have the intern finish the script to save money so we can do the rock effects and Hey lets have a single shot that lasts 90 seconds that is nothing but Noah climbing a latter, that way he doesnt have to write anything stupid for that part. We saw it in a theatre that had three power outages during the show. I can truly say that my favorite part of the movie was when it stopped.
