A beautiful story of finding the right home for the right dog. Written so well by John OSullivan. Siofra the lurcher came into us frail, emaciated and with a terrible skin condition. Thanks to the dedication of Jessica in the early days and then Nuala and John who put tremendous work into Siofra, she finally found the home she deserves. - At long last this gorgeous girl is getting the home she deserves, she is seen here with Gerry Lane and his two beautiful daughters, who will be giving her the life we have always wanted for her. This family came to see Piper, but were not 100% sure, so on last Saturday we brought Piper down to the family again for a second visit. I could see that Piper was the right looking dog for them, as they had a pure bred Weimaraner named Duke, but, I just didn’t think Piper was the RIGHT dog for them. Luckily enough I had a secret weapon in the van, so out came Siofra. Immediately she started playing with Duke. Gerry had told me that he could never tire out Duke, after five minutes of playing with Siofra, Duke was on his back with four legs in the air. Siofra was still ready for road. While Duke was resting Siofra started to turn on the charm, going around to the individual family members for rubs and kisses. We then put a lead on Siofra and asked the Lane family to take her for a walk, while we waited in the van with poor Piper. Siofra headed off nervously, wondering why she was going away from her usual pack. Nuala and I played with Piper for about twenty minutes, then we saw Molly, one of the daughters, comiing back with Siofra walking confidently along beside her, I turned to Nuala and said “Thats Siofra gone anyway”. Nuala and I have only been part of DAWG since about last September. Since then we have seen many dogs pass through our lives, some for a weekend, some for months at a time, some for just a short trip in my van. We also now know what it actually means to find the RIGHT home, not just any home. We would like to thank everybody at DAWG for allowing us to be a part of something that is so very special, rewarding, heartbreaking, fulfilling and so much more rolled into one and we will do our very best to keep helping out in anyway possible. Goodbye Siofra, we love you and will miss you so much. xoxoxo
