Nashville has lost one of its great Musicians, Bobbe Seymour. Bobbe was a wonderful Steel Guitar player and he was my good friend. I first met Bobbe at Starday King Recording Studio in Nashville when I was 16 and James Brown was there recording. My father Merle Kilgore was the A@R man there and he told me that Brown would be there that day. About 5 years ago my good friend from East Tennessee George Kimery came down and said, Lets go to Bobbe Seymours Steel Guitar Shop,I want to pick up some Spider Wires for my Steel. When we arrived Bobbe said, Steve, How you doing ? I havent seen you in years. He remembered that I was a Magicians and he said, Lets see some Magic tricks. We had a big time that day. Bobbe loaded me up with a arm full of Tee Shirts and our friendship was renewed. Bobbe made me feel so special that day that I sent him a huge Fruit Basket with a note , To the living Legend. I joined the local Steel Guitar Club and was Secretary for a year. Bobbe had a great since of humor and even though I didnt play the Steel I loved that instrument and the folks that played them. I was taking Fiddle lessons at the time from Kenny Sears. I bought a very old Fiddle in Johnson City, TN and showed it to Bobbe in his shop. Bobbe said, Lets have some fun. He had reproduced some old Sho-Bud decals for Steel Guitars. Bobbe said ,Lets put this Sho-Bud decal on your Fiddle and bring it to the Steel Guitar Club tonight and well put a few of the guys on and Ill tell them that Shot Jackson made just one Fiddle and that you own it. So that night at the Club I took it out of the case and we had some fun with a few of the guys. One of the guys said, I didnt know that Shot made a Fiddle ? Oh yes its very rare. As I was walking out in the parking lot, one of the club members came up to me and asked if I like to sell that fiddle, I said , No I think its a collectors item He really wanted it,. I didnt have the heart to tell him we were just putting him on. Bobbes Steel Guitar is silent now and there is another piece missing in the world of Music. If you got to know Bobbe Seymour you were one of the Lucky Ones Good bye my dear friend.
