A big THANK YOU to Cheryl for arranging the visit to the Hixson Sharptail Preserve with our own personal guide Mark Sands. Fifteen of us were able to watch about 11 Sharp-tailed Grouse perform their mating rituals on the lek. After leaving the lek some returned home right away while others continued to bird for various portions of the day. Destinations included Mann Creek Reservoir and continuing on up Fourth of July Creek Road. Then we took the road to Spring Creek Campground. Finally, Cherys carload also visited the New Plymouth SP and Birding Island South. Other than the Sharp-tailed Grouse, highlights included Red Crossbills and an early courting pair of House Wrens. Here are a couple very poor photos of the Sharp-tailed Grouse. The distance was too great to get anything better with my camera equipment. Those that endured to the end tallied 70 species for the day.
