They had only just met this morning, and the woman was merely the latest in a string of analysts who had questioned her daily about her theories—extrapolations based on facts, she reminded them equally daily. “Ideas are the most dangerous weapon one can give the younger generation,” she continued. “Ideas are like bullets than can kill one and then keep killing everyone that newly dead person comes in contact with.” She took a slight, but loud breath. “You’ll pardon my similes, of course, but I’m not much of an academic. I’ve always been more of a hammer than a paper clip.” Celia pulled the smock closed over her thighs as best she could. She hated feeling so damn exposed in front of this woman. “Please. I’ll do whatever you want me to. I just want to teach again.” “I’m afraid that ship has sailed, love. You see, that’s the whole problem with teaching and even the instructors themselves. They keep sending out idea after idea, and while most students couldn’t care less, a few get infected with the desire to more deeply plumb the depths of those ideas. And you, love, you are going to go down in history as a revolutionary.” “A revolutionary?” “Well, you would, if we didn’t have to erase you and your ideas from existence, that is. You’re practically another Martin Luther, Non-Entity #506621X-12AC, and your little research project posted in the Prioress Report could have been as world-changing as Luther’s 99 Theses.” “It was 95 Theses,” Celia said and immediately regretted it. “Of course. Well, as I said, I’m not much of an academic. But the point remains the same. You see how much one man upset his world’s apple cart. We simply cannot have that happen again.”
