A bit of Raw Power for me this morning! My first copy of this - TopicsExpress

A bit of Raw Power for me this morning! My first copy of this album was a 1980s CD with really appalling sound quality, which added to the tales Id read of David Bowies mixing being sub-standard, coke-addled sabotage of a great album. That was followed by Iggys own everything louder than everything else 1990s mix, which certainly had power... but dont listen to it through headphones whatever you do! ;) I finally got an original pressing a few years later, and soundwise, it shows that the 80s CD was doing it a disservice (to put it mildly) and that Bowies version might have been a bit more eccentric and less in-yer-face than Iggys, but in the quest for loudness, Mr Pop had lost a lot of the (relative) subtlety in the original mix. I think that nowadays, I prefer Bowies mix - its ramshackle nature adds a layer of fragility to the Stooges raging, suggesting that it could all fall apart at any moment... as the band did not so long afterwards...
