A bite of history: Har Zion , 1936 , Tel- Aviv The company Palestine Maritime Lloyd had two mixed cargo ships operating on the Haifa - Istanbul- line Costanza exporting lemons and relating , inter alia , timber and livestock. One of them , Har Zion , was commanded by Captain Erich Hirschfeld, experienced sailor who had fled Nazi Germany. With other German immigrants sailors, he worked on the construction of the Navy Eretz Israel. Aboard the Har Zion that was founded the youth organization Hevel Yami LeYisrael , to promote education seamanship . In this organization included the mechanical engineer Tuvim Emanuel , one of the founders of Zevulun (see previous article). It was also one of the great figures of the nascent navy. From 1934 to 1936 , an elegant white mixed liner , Tel- Aviv, Haifa served on -Trieste line . It was owned by Arnold Bernstein, of Hamburg, a magnate of the Jewish merchant navy.
