Photo: Pham Duc A parcel on a bus traveling through the north-central province of Nghe An on Tuesday suddenly exploded at noon, injuring three bus employees. The parcel contained a rectangular-parallelepiped loudspeaker. Its explosion crushed the hands and caused severe facial injuries to the driver’s assistantThai Viet Hao. Two others, including the driver Phan Dinh Ninh and a reserve driver, Tran Van Tam, suffered injuries to their backs, arms and hands. Fortunately all of the passengers were uninjured. The bus, travelling from Nghe An’s Vinh Town to Hanoi, stopped over Nghi Loc District. Its windshield and door were utterly destroyed. Tam told Thanh Nien News that the parcel had been given to the company three days earlier by a person who asked that it be dropped off at a fuel station in Thanh Hoa Province. However, when the bus staff called the phone number written on the parcel’s cover, the recipient refused to take the parcel, saying it was not his. “Hao [the drivers assistant] told me that the parcel was not received by anyone, then he opened it and took out a loudspeaker,” said Phan Thi Oanh, a bus passenger who sat near Hao. “He was fumbling with it when it suddenly exploded.” Local police say they are investigating the incident.
