A controversial one for many parents: Do you think spanking is - TopicsExpress

A controversial one for many parents: Do you think spanking is justified (or maybe even a moral or spiritual imperative)? Both Corinne and I were spanked growing up. All of the churches I have ever attended (as far as I know) advocate spanking as one of many valid parenting mechanisms (never in anger, never with a hand, etc, etc). Many of my dear friends who I love and respect point to spanking as an important part of their own healthy development and/or the development of their children. Starting in January of this year, we stopped spanking our kids and I plan to never spank them again. Why the change? Well, it started as a personal this isnt working and seems illogical struggle. I could go on and on about this and give many examples, but a summary might be Im going to hit you so you dont hit your sister. WAT? This is something Ive been conflicted about for years. Starting last year, I began doing research. I found some great content from Stefan Molyneux and I began listening and reading. On a long road trip to Florida, Corinne and I started listening together (over 70 podcasts, if you can believe that). Tonight, I watched this video and decided to post about our journey on this controversial topic. This video isnt for everyone. Some will dismiss it outright or be offended by it. Others might engage with the research as they are already looking to form their opinions. Still others think this is the most obvious conclusion and marvel at the rest who are still figuring things out. Know that I deeply love parents who love their kids. If you still see spanking as a positive action, please dont feel judged by me. Were all on a journey.
