A couple of notes on this ALS business and then my own upload (yes it was already put up, but I want to have my own video too!). Plus my receipt! 1. To all of those talking about the trivialization of ALS through this challenge: This is true to a certain extent, but the benefits outweigh the harms by far. People constantly upload stupid things online, but this utilization of social media does spread awareness. The mere fact that someone now knows that there is a disease called ALS is a step in the right direction. A donation of $20 is a step in the right direction. A charitable cause, even if just in the name for some, because a reality for others. Dont disregard that. A fun way of raising money to donate is what I founded my charity organization based on, and it is an amazing way to reach out to todays youth. 2. PLEASE: Read about this neurodegenerative disease. Yes, we know Lou Gehrig had it, and that IS a good way for quick association, but PLEASE delve deeper! Even if just reading through the facts, or understand what the disease is about, educate yourself. Im not saying youll cure it, but youll understand the importance of the person who does. 3. Dont stop here! Yes, ALS was the disease that happened to become famous overnight. That doesnt diminish the importance of other diseases, catastrophes, and additional charitable projects! Research, learn, give back, and help make the world more friendly and safe to live in. Now, as promised :)
