A couple of years I ago I started writing this story, Whispers on the Chain, and next month Ill be publishing it online for anyone to read. Going through a final edit two years later, Im still really proud of it. Its definitely a first effort and Im still growing and improving a lot as a writer, but sometimes I come across prose that I wouldnt want to improve on anymore than the day I wrote it. A lot of people have encouraged me to open myself up and put my work out there for everyone to read. So anyway, heres a sneak peek: -I shoved off from the floor of the lake and glided away from her, tears welling up in my eyes as well. The wind increased the further I moved and I watched Jess rub her legs with the palms of her hands, clearly cold from wading through the knee deep water. I looked into the sky and saw that the stars were becoming more blurred, like they usually did when the unexplainable occurred. The fog rolled down off the hills and seeped through the leaves on shore, obscuring the land from view. As I slid deeper into Long Lake, I could faintly see Jess rise to her feet. The demeanor of sadness and anger turned to worry as she watched the winds of time envelope the lonely canoe in the middle of the water. I looked back at her, now certain that I had convinced her of the truth. For the first time, we both worried that it would be the last time we would see each other. I gazed through the clouds as long as I could, until her figure eventually disappeared before my eyes. The stars reignited in the sky, and the fog vaporized into the night. Jess was gone.-
