A couple of years ago folic acid (from supplements) was thought to be connected with higher cancer rates. A new meta-analysis completed in Jan 2013 (reviewed all good studies on this subject) does not show this link. Folic acid is a synthetic (not found in nature) that is not readily converted to the active form of folinic acid. Synthetic versions of supplements are never a good idea. You will find folic acid in box store vitamins and fortified into our flours and processed foods. To convert folic acid into folinic acid you need to eat uncooked leafy greens, have functioning enzymes along the methylation pathway and the co-factors vitamin B2, B6 and B12. You cannot make up for a poor diet with a multivitamin. Folinic acid is found in foliage - green leafy plants, that should be eaten daily. thelancet/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(12)62001-7/abstract
