A day in the life: Sometimes I wonder where all the time goes when Im on support crew duties. Yesterday went something like this... breakfast around 7 (after a very late night due to ferry dramas), down to HQ to pick up Kims bike and make sure a minor mechanical had been fixed properly, back to B&B stopping for a couple of Canada Day photos on the way, make sure everything is sorted for race, Kim rode down while I drove to start, hunt down course map for the day to figure out where to go to see riders on course and try to get some pics or vid, watch Kim and Peg start (waves 1 and 2), ride out to selected spot on course, wait for riders, as soon as Kim goes by get back on my bike and try to beat her back to the finish while not getting in the way of any riders or getting lost due to shortcuts derived from a map with few street names, after interview take Kim to get food (I get to eat too), leave Kim eating cheesecake while I go and pick up Pegs laundry (takes a while as I couldnt find her - its not easy!), take Peg back to cafe where Kim is, wait for Kims 2nd cheesecake to arrive, on way to drop Kim back at B&B find laundromat, thank all the powers that be that its open on a holiday, put wash on, drop Kim back, unpack stuff, quick shower, back to put washing in dryer, whip around supermarket while thats doing its thing, go back, put in more coins as not dry yet, sort and fold clean kit, back to B&B, after Kim wakes from nap drive back to HQ and give Peg her laundry, wait for guy to go get me replacement cleat (the story has been making its way around camp and he happened to be sitting with Peg), back to awesome cheesecake place for dinner (no cheesecake - Kim has eaten it all), they end up taking ages and bringing out breads and dips to keep us going until our food is ready (they are turning away non-racers). Finally back to B&B one last time. Give Kims legs a rub because they badly need it, pack up car for early start next day, while Kim is asleep I take a look at her data from the last few days - it looks good, she is definitely stronger than last year (the field is also stronger and deeper). I get a few hours of broken sleep before our awesome hosts wakes us before our scheduled alarm to let us know it looks like the ferry is going to fill up judging by the traffic going past the house (indeed, people who left when we were going to did not make the ferry - riders had to walk on with bikes and crew had to get the later one, which makes getting to the finish in time for early finishers very tight). All in all, an incredibly full day and hugely rewarding because Kim and Peg are both doing so well and making me proud at every turn. And I finally got a bit of vid - day 3 final descent (sorry about the shaky hands).
