A different kind of War Hero: You dont hear stories like this very often: Prince Lazar, Serbian Great Martyr You can read about it but Ill tell you why I think its unique. Picture for a moment William Wallace, of Braveheart. Wallace and Lazar lived about the same time, but listen to the difference in the story. Before the battle of Stirling, Wallace boasts that if the English dont turn and go home begging forgiveness, every one of them will die that day. Sure enough, thats pretty much what happens, as you are able to see in gory detail. Before the Battle of Kosovo with the Turks, Tzar Lazar has a vision of an angel who offers him two choices. A kingdom on earth including victory in the battle or a heavenly kingdom including his own death and the complete anihilation of his army (every able bodied Serb). Lazar chose the latter and today his decapitated relics reside in a monastery in Serbia -- incorrupt. They have not decayed in 600 years. Truly blessed is that eternal, heavenly kingdom to which we can all attain, and truly unworthy of regard is every earthly kingdom to which only a few can attain with great cost. Holy martyr Lazar, pray to God for us! youtube/watch?v=npZ0sj318Xk orthodoxwiki.org/Lazar_of_Serbia
