A dusk ride with mates along a fire trail at Londonderry in Sydney’s north-west landed a man in hospital tonight. Police, ambulance, rural fire service and CareFlight teams combined to locate, treat and transport the man after his friends called for help shortly after 8 pm. When fire and police officers located the injured man off Devlin Road, ambulance paramedics called the CareFlight trauma team to assist with treatment. The CareFlight doctor said, although the 24-year-old St Marys man suffered chest and pelvic injuries when he crashed while riding at an estimated 80 km/h, his helmet prevented head injuries. The man was stabilised by the doctor and paramedics then taken in a road ambulance, under their continued treatment, to Westmead Hospital where he was in a stable condition on arrival.
