A fact of History: Kings of old used to collect taxes to maintain their palaces, pay their expense and fund wars. They were often dominating sociopathic bastards, but the truth is they mainly collected taxed from the wealthy. It was the Church that collected taxes from the poor. Today we supposedly have freedom, civilized society and democracy. We no longer have kings collecting taxes (only a Queen & her family spending some of them). Now, instead, we have a elected Government that collects taxes and they collect them from everyone, rich and poor (income, VAT, Licences, etc.) and Government now cut the taxes to the rich. Now taxes are increasingly collected to maintain Government Buildings & Institutions, pay Expenses and pay for Wars. Its no longer Kings that push us around, but Politicians and Government Jobsworths. Well done People and Politics, we have moved so far in the last 150 years and yet we are now moving backwards. We have given our power back to the Sociopaths. And still there are people who bow to these Creeps pretentious superiority, deluded expertise and mind numbing bullshit. All in the name of Law & Order and Defense of the Realm. Well done Tory Voters, you sold us all down the river in the hope of obtaining privilege and riches from our new Supremacist Masters - Corporate Government. Perhaps freedom & justice is not deserved. I once worked for a very good, senior manager and she made me Chair of a very democratic Management Group that was set up to develop policy, discuss problems and identify solutions to problems. Some of us loved the privilege of governance, but many moaned and complained, wasting much of the meetings complaining about what they could not do, making few constructive proposals. In the end I asked the Senior manager if she would agree with me proposing a vote of no confidence in this democratic meeting; have it disbanded and replaced with a conventional management meeting. She felt that would be an interesting test of the desire of managers to accept responsibility for their own decision making, so at the next meeting I put forward the proposal and 2 or 3 people were keen to second it. I warned the Managers that this would mean that they would no longer have a direct say in determining the Agenda, or in participating fully in the responsibilities of decision making & policy. They, by majority, voted to disband that meeting - Incredible. I continued as the Chair of the new Management Meeting, but the boss set the Agenda, in discussion with those of us who showed interest and commitment. Maybe that is a better way of doing things. What do your think???
