A fantastic update from our wildlife consultant, Amanda (currently in British Colombia, Canada): Just had a truly authentic Canadian wilderness experience at a wonderful homestyle lodge just one hour from Williams Lake, BC. Boat ride across beautiful glacial lake, followed by jet boat up a pristine mountain river to where we crept (and waded!) through virgin rainforest to the salmon spawning grounds. Sockeye salmon surrounded us everywhere we looked or trod - dead and alive, some still struggling upstream. Evidence of bears all around us - half eaten salmon, bear trails, hair-raising growling from the bushes, warning us not to come in, as well as a hasty retreat when we stumbled upon a den in the forest....Way too dangerous our guide whispered as we backed away, adrenaline pumping! This is the real wilderness deal - unhabituated bears! It is the most amazingly intimate encounter I have ever had with them - even without a sighting as we knew they were there just metres away watching us! My stay sadly too short, but saw footage of 6 bears filmed the previous day and I am certain that if staying for 3 or more nights bears would be spotted. If youd like to visit the lodge where Amanda stayed, please do give us a call, well shortly be adding this to our canada trips > wildlifeworldwide/discover/canada
