A few days ago I re-discovered the music of Judee Sill, and read about her life. Ive was so touched and moved, and wrote this: Im very moved lately thinking about people like Judee Sill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heath Ledger and so many others. Those who have so much to offer, who are so human and such beautiful souls, so sensitive and often hurting so badly. What is it about our society, and by that I mean the American society, that people arent supported? Many live such isolated lives, without strong community, each in their own houses/apartments, suffering and sometimes sadly dying alone. I think of other cultures, other places and societies where this is much less likely to occur. I know the pain of losing someone to suicide and feeling perhaps I could have done more. I think weve probably all experienced that feeling. Im seriously asking what I/we can do to make this less likely. So many of us (and I include myself in this) are so afraid that if we are truly honest about what were feeling, well be rejected or considered a drag to be around., and often we are right about that. Theres something deeply wrong. How can we fix this?
