A few decades ago, artists who defied convention and embraced the music associated with a different race or culture were met with a great deal of suspicion. This is when music was categorized as “black” or “white.” Now, when drummers and dancers from different ethnic backgrounds collaborate on projects, they generate widespread appreciation, evidenced by this performance by an inter-racial, pulsating Minnesota group at the recent Ghanaian Independence Day celebration.
