A few friends recently posted these comments in regard to the latest # campaigns that have trended across the internet: Which is worse? # bring back our girls or # kony 2012? (Deliberate gaps) If ONLY hashtags and selfies really would solve all the worlds problems But if you were their mother. Sister. Girlfriend. You may like the fact that people cared. Even if it was for just one second. Argue about the validity of social media activism all you want. I will support and cheer you on. And also why do people pick and choose these issues? It seems there is a lot of guilt going around that these things happen so maybe people think a hashtag gets rid of that guilt. 1000 women get raped everyday in DRC but I dont see anyone hashtagging that? theguardian/world/2014/may/09/nigeria-hashtags-wont-bring-back-our-girls-bringbackourgirls I myself, have mixed thoughts about this new format of Social Slacktivism but would like to hear more on this from you. Are these # campaigns actually beneficial or can they be harmful?
