A few weeks ago I posted that I was going to start a Brown Bag Ministry. Well today was the distribution and what an experience it was. There were 5 of us Desiree Carlton, JD and his wife Amanda, Micheline and myself. Our goal was to start with 25 bags. Our first stop was just a couple of blocks from church. One woman was standing on the side if the road with a sign there were 4 men under a tree not far from her. We stopped with our bagged lunches, cold water and toiletries. They were very receptive the girls went to talk to the female and I stayed behind with JD. He did an amazing job getting real with them and ministering to them. He shared his story how he to was homeless at one time he shared scripture and challenged them with questions. One man stuck out to Me his name was Odom. His skin was dark from the sun and looked like leather. He knew scripture he had all the right answers for JD. I notice some moisture under his eyes I thought it was sweat. I then realized it was tears. He Knew exactly where Potential Church was. He had come here in 2004 to work after Ivan and planned to stay 2 years and make money. He came here from Hawaii so he had funds to fly. 10 years later hes still here and homeless my mind was wandering how did this happen. His face was worn his wrinkles were deep his age was probably much less then his looks. His hair was a redish brown with the roots coming in very gray. My thought was that maybe his body could no longer provided for him he seemed so weary. Before we left we all got in a circle and prayed for them. Odom positioned himself next to me and held my hand when we finished prayer he would not let go of my hand. What a humbling experience we spent about 30 minutes with them. Now on to the next. Which was a group Of 8 men. They too were very receptive, friendly And appreciative we spent some time then on to the next. Thats when we meet James and his friend whos name escapes me. James was Carrying a guitar bag. He took out his guitar and his friend was egging him on to play something for us. I told him I sing we spent about 30 minutes with him he was amazing I sang with him. He made such an impression on me his clothes were clean, he had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile. When we left I told James he made my day and felt blessed and honored to meet him. Again we prayed and went on our way. We made a couple more stops until we exhausted our supplies. This was a humbling experience I am so blessed. I wont forget these new friends we meet today and believe many of them will cross our paths again. Odom and James have a special place in my heart and in my prayers. Feeling blessed to be in the company of my 4 other counterparts. Today was an incredible experience for all of us. JD and Desiree our prayer warriors the words just flow naturally from their mouths like they dont even have to Think about it. Looking forward to our next Adventure!!
