A few weeks ago, we received a call from a 40-ish year old serviceman (NAVY) who was injured overseas. He wanted to adopt a younger Akita so it could be his constant companion and be trained, with him and through the Veterans Administration (VA), as a Therapy/PTSD support dog. We talked the qualities such a special Akita would need to have, and we were fascinated to learn new things about this specialized training a lucky Akita might receive. We admired his desire to rescue and after going over our adoption process, we made it clear we would not take a penny from him and this would be a no cost adoption. We ended each of the following few calls with a promise to stay in touch and wait, together, for the right dog to come into rescue. Well, today, we learned, this Navy Heros prayers might have been answered. Meet Mitsu a 10 month old, well-socialized & trained female. More soon.
