A firefighter fell down a lift-shaft while tackling a blaze at a family centre in Birmingham. The man in his 30s, fell 8m (26ft) down a lift-shaft and was taken to hospital on a spine board. He was among 20 firefighters called to the semi-detached property in Handsworth at 23:30 BST on Friday. West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was caused by an electrical fault and was not being treated as suspicious. The service confirmed the injured firefighter had not been seriously hurt.
