A follow up study was performed to determine the long-term outcomes of a trial that compared intensive blood sugar (“tight”) control with standard therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes. After about 10 years, patients who were in the intensive blood sugar control group during the trial had the same cardiovascular outcomes (death, heart attack, or stroke) as patients in the standard therapy group.
