A friend asked me if I find conservation work fulfilling? You know I have to say that while you wont get rich doing it, it is one of the most enriching things that you could ever do and one of the greatest labors youll ever love. It fills my life with moments of incredible interest. I get to see the best and the worst of people. I get to experience things that startle me, shock me, enrage me and bring me to tears, literally. I will freely admit to crying more than once as I witnessed some of the most terrible atrocities imaginable at times. But it has also elevated and enlightened me. Its introduced me to heroes big and small. Many of whom dont fully know just how much I love and admire and respect them and their drive and passion for what they do and how much they believe in their causes. I would not trade that for anything on the planet. This work has given me life learning lessons about ego and humility and cooperation. Its seen me through situations in which Giants of Industry and Government agendas have been laid low or had the wind stolen from their sales/sails (Both apply) by the little guy. Magical triumphs in which no one believed that such great results were even possible, and yet they happened. It has forced me to ask for help of others, and it has given me the option and reward of being able to contribute my skills and strengths to help others succeed for the planet, and sometimes very much for themselves. I am so grateful for each of those moments. Conservation and those who I have met both friend and foe have shaped me and filled my being with memories and moments that have been dramatic, heart wrenching, scary, and sometimes amusing or triumphant. So is it fulfilling? I wouldnt have it any other way. Its the best part of life, and done with the best people in life, and when I age to the point of reflecting back on what I did while I was here on the planet, it will be among my fondest memories and most satisfying thoughts. - Erik
