A friend is asking for help to raise funds for his mobility and independence. Mr. Kelvin Kakazu, a former avid aikido practitioner with our friends at the Chicago Aikido Club and current law student at Northern Illinois University, was diagnosed with spinal cysts in 2013 and surgery to remove them left him paralyzed from the chest down. Despite this “setback,” he seems in good spirits and has resumed his studies at NIU. To regain some semblance of the independence he’s since lost, he is appealing to those who have the means to help raise the funds necessary to procure an ultralight wheelchair and adapted vehicle. This is a literal “back-to-the-wall” example of a true warrior asking for help to enable him to help himself. We are passing along this request for your consideration.
