A friend of mine received an email from Epic MD in Ferndale that contained this announcement: Health Officials are urging anyone involved with last weeks flooding who have not had a tetanus vaccination in the last 5 years to get a tetanus booster shot. Even if you did not suffer flood damage you may know someone who did. Share this with them. If you need a tetanus booster, now would be a good time to get it. Under the Affordable Care Act, there is no co-pay or deductible for this. Tetanus can be a serious infection that causes painful muscle tightening and stiffness, usually all over the body. It enters the body through cuts, scratches, or wounds in the skin. Tetanus can be fatal, killing about 1 out of 5 people who are infected. It can be prevented by getting vaccinated. To make this easier, your care team at EPIC Primary Care is not requiring an appointment to get your tetanus booster. If you live in a flood affected area, we will accept tetanus shot walk-ins from 8am -5:30pm Monday - Friday and 9am - 1:30pm on Saturdays. Learn more about tetanus risk and flooding at epicpc
