A friend of mine was telling me how her 17 year old daughters school (Choctaw HS) prohibits students from having unnatural hair colors in their hair at school.... i.e. blue or pink highlights, etc..... and likewise is Newcastle and some other surrounding schools. What I think is ironic about the whole situation is, the invitation only schools, like Classen School of Science and Arts or OSSM (Oklahoma school of science and mathematics) and a few others, actually encourage individuality. They want students to be creative, assertive, confident and self-assured. They allow their students to BE THEMSELVES. Hair color does not matter. Wardrobe is a non-issue...etc etc etc...... and those are the kids who end up being our kids bosses. You tell a kid NO too much and you WILL create a monster. Period. When you allow a child the freedom to be creative and to show non-disruptive individuality, youre doing him a huge favor. End of story.
