A girl at #Wariyapola bus terminal was harassed and she retaliated correctly to stand up and give him a slap. Men and the power structures that benefit them are guilty of this. MPs, world leaders, domestic & foreign policies, street harassment, oppressive intra-family relationships that dehumanise, exploit and hurt womyn. 95% of women in #Colombo experience street harassment. This is not uniquely a Sri Lankan phenomenon. Men tell women to ignore it, take it as a compliment or even worse- just stay at home and watch what you wear. The problem isnt the womyn- its the men and the power structures that allow it. The harasser in this video did not respond to her slap. For this he is hailed as a gentleman and the woman was blamed and called an attacker for defending herself. Calling womyn names and touching them in public spaces and treating them without respect should not be considered gentlemanly. The harasser only got a fraction of what he deserved.
