A great word from a good book...! HE WHISPERS IN THE SILENCE Most of us are not comfortable with silence. Did you ever sit across the table from a college date when the conversation went stone cold? You couldn’t think of one solitary thing to say! The silence was killing you. All you could hear were the crickets. You just wanted to crawl under the table. Silence is foreign to American culture. We are a loud people. Travel to any city outside the United States and sit by a hotel pool. I’ll point out all the Americans in five minutes. We fill our lives with noise and things that make noise. But noise is draining and saps the soul. You will never become a deep person in the noise. God speaks in the silence. I’ve stood at the top of Mount Sinai, where Elijah waited to hear God. Elijah said God wasn’t in the ferocious wind, He wasn’t in the violent earthquake, He wasn’t in the blazing fire … rather, He whispered in the silence.12 When you hit a place in life when you hear nothing else, it’s then that you will hear God. Get out of the noise and the traffic and find a place of solace where God can speak. If life’s pain seems unbearable today, then stop and listen. He wants to speak—but He won’t shout. Chinchen, P.
