A jeweller’s shop was robbed in south Manchester. At 2.50pm on Thursday 18 December 2014, four men wearing balaclavas got out of a BMW one series and made their way to the shop on Wilmslow Road. One of them smashed the front door with a sledgehammer before walking inside. They threatened staff and demanded jewellery was handed over. The offenders continued to smash the display cases when a member of public intervened and was hit in the back. A quantity of gold was stolen and the men got back into the car, which was driven by a fifth man and made off towards Warmer Street, Rusholme. The member of public sustained minor injuries and was treated at scene by paramedics. Detective Constable Chris Clarke said: “Thankfully, the victim did not receive serious injury but was very lucky not to be hurt more. Due to the time of the robbery and the location, we believe a lot of people would have been driving past. “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or saw the car being abandoned to contact us as soon as possible.” Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 6151 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
