A journalist interviewing me today asked, Rev, why do you think that violence is becoming so prevalent in our schools here in PNG? I replied, Because many of our children are being taught at HOME that violence is acceptable and the way to deal with confrontation. Racism along tribal and ethnic lines is being taught at home. We allow toddlers into mature rated movies and then hiss at the mother when the kids start crying during scenes of violence, a boy grows up watching his father beat his mother at home then he will act out in the same manner at school. We cannot blame the schools.... we must look at the home first and ensure that we are not teaching our children the vocabulary of violence and racism. The fact that much of this student violence is occurring within Church run schools is further evidence that the Body of Christ is failing to address the core needs of our people.
